ABOUT ME

*Filmmaker  *Director *Writer *Painter *Poet

I left my hometown in Iran at the age of 17, to move to the UK and study filmmaking. During my time at university, I volunteered on a variety of features, shorts and music videos: taking any opportunity I could to immerse myself in film production. As such, I developed a skillset in script supervising and assistant camera - feeding both my writing and directing acumen.

A month after graduating, I wrote and directed my first short film, Crestfallen Leaves. In line with my political and philosophical interests, the film explored the limits of pity and the hypocrisy of altruism. I did so through the lens of a sex worker, exploited by a writer wanting to use their story. True to one’s ethos, I heavily researched the film with first-hand accounts of people working in that sector. The film was awarded in festivals across America, Italy, France and the UK.

Those completed, I turned my attention to a second short. For my second short film I took a train to Norfolk and wild camped on the coastline, in order to find the right atmosphere for the project. The film, Bubbles, explores premonition, the concept of ‘future’, and nature’s insensitivity to human concerns.

I followed up these personal projects with a contract to a professional production company: signing on to direct 3 features across the UK. The larger budgets on these films afforded me the ability to experiment more intricately with camera techniques and designs that I had admired as a student.

At the age of 23, I had once again immigrated. I now reside near Atlanta, located in the state of Georgia, USA; where I pursue my passion with writing feature film scripts and finding ways to bring those stories to the pictures. My long-term aim is to continue writing stories which expose the societal hypocrisy, manipulation of emotions, societal relations and how expectations imbue one's downfall. I would like to display these stories subliminally with visual poetry through arthouse cinema and persistently continue creating relevant and impactful subtexts.
